What is this site?

This site is called a wiki. A Wiki is like an encyclopedia, except it is web-based. The most famous Wiki is Wikipedia, which was created by the Wikipedia Foundation.

The software which runs the site was created by MediaWiki which had the requirements of Wikipedia in mind (and still do as it is continually developed). The software they made for Wikipedia was released with a GNU License, meaning that it is free to us as long as your respect the terms of the license.

Wiki's have a certain style, in that, within articles, useful words are linked to other articles describing them.

Why use a wiki for a cricket club?

It's not our main site! Our main site is www.barrowgurneycc.co.uk, but we found that there is now so much historic content dating back to pre-war, that it would be better to use the main site for current affairs and events, and this Wiki to archive old data to in a really organised fashion.

Can I contribute or help out?

YES! I have several storage boxes which contains:

  • Scorebooks
  • Photographs
  • Letters & Minutes
  • Trophies
  • Press Clippings

and more...

Anybody who would be interested in helping transfer scorebook data to our statistics system, or scan in photographs, or pass on anything they have which is suitable should contact BS.

Great! But how do I use this site

Simply use the search tool on the left hand side of the site. The organised nature of site means that it is indexed. So, if you want to know about the history of the club, you should just type history and click search. Any articles relevant will be displayed for you to browse.
